Barony College

Barony College specialises in vocational training and education for the land-based and animal care industries. It has practical facilities for aquaculture, sport fisheries management and aquatics education and training. The college's commercial trout farm produces 25 tonnes of fish per annum and the hatchery facilities enable students to be involved in the egg production, hatching and early rearing phases, as well as on-growing. Coarse fish and ornamental species are spawned each year in a warm water recirculation unit held in the college's aquatics centre, providing a ‘rounded' aquaculture experience.

The college is working closely with the aquaculture industry to develop ‘Aquaculture Work-based Learning' programmes to allow those in work to develop their skills and knowledge and progress, as well as allowing those who can not attend college full-time to study through Distance Learning. New programmes will be available from 2010.

The college also has residential accommodation for students.
